EXTRACT: Ch 38 : Ravi Escape

It was cold in the small elevator. He could hear the clanging of the steel ropes hitting the girders on the way down and the whirring of the electric-motors above. The seventh-floor light flickered. He took a deep breath hoping to smell her perfume. Only the syrupy smell of strangers lingered. The lift was slow. He checked his watch. His mind shouted his frustration. Nobody will love you like I loved you – that will be your punishment. A glaring light shone through the cracked cover of the sixth-floor light. Six slices, he thought. Fifth-floor. It will be my punishment too.
